Willie Dick finally calls it a Day!
I wish to belatedly pay tribute to Willie Dick, who officially retired at our last AGM, as our Museum Curator after many, many years sterling service.
Anyone who has ever visited our Museum at Southwick Park, will be aware of the meticulous care and attention Willie paid to the large collection of artefacts contained therein, and in particular the large sum of money he personally donated to the Museum Fund, raised through his interesting and informative presentations that he gave about the D-Day preparations and landings, actually located in the D-Day Map Room.
As you will know, the premises housing the Museum were requisitioned back
into service by the MOD for operational usage, and so under the careful
supervision of Willie and his successor, Steve Robertson, all of the artefacts were
professionally packed in boxes and are now stored in the old squash courts at
Southwick Park, until PM(N) Cdr Lizzie Grant, Lt Cdr Michelle Thompson and
other branch members have been able to identify and secure another location
to re-establish our collection for display.
Willie served as an RPO on my team when I was NPM Scotland and Northern
Ireland, and has been a loyal and treasured friend for well over 40 years.
Coupled with his long and dedicated service in numerous roles on the
Association Committee since its inception in 1993, I thank him sincerely for his
efforts on behalf of the Branch and its Association, and wish him a restful
retirement.
