Ladies and Gentlemen,

It seems almost superfluous to hope that everybody enjoyed a happy and merry Christmas this year. That said, as we head from Easter towards Summer, we can remain ever hopeful of lighter and happier days ahead.

The pandemic and subsequent lockdowns have affected each and every one of us.  It has also become one of the most over analysed, over reported and micro managed 12 months – certainly of my lifetime.  So I don’t intend to say anything more about it.

Except..

I have been amazed and humbled to learn of the many acts of heart-warming kindness, generosity and concern shown by so many people towards their family, friends and neighbours during the challenging and difficult months of the pandemic.

We are in essence a caring Association and that was the prime reason I brought it into existence in the early 1980s – to celebrate and share in friendship the bonds of our Branch – friends in fun and fellowship.  We successfully continue to achieve these principles by the good offices of your Chairman Nigel Carpenter and his dedicated Committee.

I sincerely hope that 2021 will return us to some form of normality and will be much less of a strain and worry than we have all experienced in 2020.

In the meantime, I know that our Patron, Admiral Sir Alan Massey, the Chairman and Committee join with me in wishing you all the Joyous Blessings of Easter past and a peaceful year ahead.
